Thursday, February 1 is the first day you can register for the competitions within the 2018 MTB Triad.
We are back this year at 3 stages but in total we will have 4 days of competition.
The schedule of the competitions:
April 21–22 – Avrig Mountain Bike Race
July 21 – Scott Geiger XCO
July 22nd – Geiger MTB Challenge
We have two important changes related to registrations:
1. this year all participants who have a FRC license will benefit from a discount on the registration fee.
2. as of this year we no longer have the Amateur category 14-18 years. All those who fall into this age category and want to participate in the MTB Triad must be licensed to a club and have a FRC cadet or junior license.
We detail in this article how the avrig stage will take place, its format having new elements compared to the previous editions. For the stages at Păltiniș we return in another article.
Stage 1 of the 2018 MTB Triad will take place in Avrig and is actually a two-day stage competition. A Time Trial and a Short Circuit on Saturday and a Marathon respectively, or for some Point-to-Point, on Sunday. The final ranking of the stage will be drawn up by aggregating the times from the two days.
Saturday’s route will be partly the one used in the past at eliminator, being arranged in the city center and in the garden of brukenthal Palace. We will remove difficult obstacles from the old route, new areas will be added to it and it will be widened wherever possible. The first trial will be held during the morning and will be a Cross Country Time Trial (XCT). Each competitor will go through a timed lap and depending on the times obtained competitors will be divided into series of a maximum of 30 competitors. In the afternoon, successive starts will be given for XCC, the number of laps being chosen so that each series lasts 25 – 30 minutes.
The first 5 arrivals in each series will get time bonuses:
– 1st place – 45 seconds
– 2nd place – 30 seconds
– 3rd place – 20 seconds
– 4th place – 10 seconds
– 5th place – 5 seconds
The time of the first day will be calculated according to the formula: TIME XCT + TIME XCC – BONUS.
Also on Saturday, between the time trial and the XCC, competitions for children between 4 and 14 years old will be held.
Sunday will be much simpler, but not easier. The trails remain mostly those of 2017. The important novelty we hope will be the replacement of the two very steep climbs on the long route with some that can be done by bike.
Good luck in training!
